Northallerton Prison Redevelopment

LTP provided transport planning and highway design support for the redevelopment of the former Northallerton Prison site.

The Project

A joint venture between Wykeland and Hambleton District Council, the Treadmills redevelopment transformed the former prison site into a mixed-use scheme. The development includes a cinema, retail units, restaurants and leisure uses, while retaining key listed buildings.

Our Role

LTP prepared a Transport Assessment (TA) and Travel Plan (TP) to support the planning application, including engagement at a public consultation event. The assessment reviewed traffic impacts across key junctions within Northallerton town centre, using modelling to test development scenarios and identify appropriate mitigation.

LTP also delivered detailed highway design works associated with the scheme, including a new signalised junction and site access arrangements. This included coordination of a stopping‑up order, utility searches and Road Safety Audits (RSA).

The Outcome

There was no objection from North Yorkshire Highways, enabling the scheme to progress through planning. The required highway improvements were delivered and the development is now complete, contributing to a significant regeneration of the town centre.
