A Transport Assessment (TA) or Transport Statement (TS) explains how a development will affect the surrounding highway network, and what measures may be needed to manage that impact.
Whether you need a TA or TS depends on the scale and nature of your scheme — but this can usually be confirmed quickly.
In broad terms, a Transport Statement is used for smaller developments, while a Transport Assessment is required where impacts are more significant and detailed analysis is needed, often including junction modelling. So you only need a TA or a TS, not both.
As a guide, residential development of around 50+ dwellings may require a TS, with larger schemes (typically 80+) more likely to require a TA, although this varies by authority.
Many schemes also require a Travel Plan alongside a TA or TS, something LTP can advise on and deliver as part of a coordinated approach. Read more about travel plans.
LTP has extensive experience working with highway authorities across the UK, including National Highways and Transport for London. This means we understand how different councils interpret and apply policy, and can tailor each report accordingly.
The focus is always on producing proportionate, practical assessments that support your planning application without unnecessary cost or complexity. You can read more about the LTP approach in terms of advice, minimising your costs, transparency and responsiveness.
LTP has delivered thousands of TS and TA reports across the UK, covering a wide range of development types and scales. So we can support your planning application, whatever your scheme entails.
Whether pre application discussions have taken place or not, LTP identifies the key transport issues early and ensures they are addressed clearly in the report.

There was no objection from Derbyshire County Council Highways, removing any highways reason for refusal. The scheme was allowed on appeal and has now been delivered.
